The following section details samples and recommended fields to create quality air shipments for tracking. The fields shown in these samples follow recommendations, but the full list of available fields can be found in the fields list below.

FourKites supports different variations of air shipments, depending on the level of tracking your organization is interested in capturing. Additional considerations should be made based on the breadth of data managed directly within your organization.

- **Airport-to-Airport: **this is a pure air leg of the shipment and follows the load from the origin airport to the destination airport
- **Airport-to-Door: **in this scenario, the load would track the air leg from the origin airport to the destination airport, and would also include the OTR delivery to the final destination
- **Door-to-Airport: **similar to the previous example, this would include a pickup stop en route to the origin airport. Next, the load would track the load through the air toward the destination airport
- **Door-to-Door: **a full end-to-end sequence that tracks the load from the pickup stop, origin airport, destination airport, and final inland delivery stop. This is the most complex form of air tracking as it connects multiple legs of the journey using different modes

**Points to note:**

- You can provide `departingFlightNumber` & `airTotalPieces` if available, if not, the fields can be ignored.
- If the customer does not know the origin & destination external address ID, they can provide the value as UNDEFINED, Fourkites will later populate the values when the events are received from the carrier.
- If you know the hub airport, the corresponding stopType should be given as `hubAirport`.
- `mawb` or `trackingNumber` fields should be provided in order to track the Air Shipments.
